The Toronto Maternal and Child Health Network (TMCHN), hosted at SickKids and funded by the Ministry of Health, advanced its mandate in 2024/25 by strengthening regional capacity, improving system integration, and expanding support for high-quality maternal, newborn, and pediatric care across the Toronto region.
This year, TMCHN secured additional base funding and expanded its leadership team with two new roles: Dr. Andrea Lausman as Obstetrical Clinical Lead and Stephanie Chu as Education and Quality Lead. These additions supported the advancement of maternal health priorities and regional quality improvement efforts.
TMCHN stabilized its governance through the Executive Advisory Committee and deepened collaboration with Ontario Health Toronto, BORN Ontario, and PCMCH. The network led eight strategic meetings through the GTA Neonatal and Pediatric Clinical Committee and launched the new Toronto Perinatal Clinical Committee to align care priorities across all seven Toronto hospitals.
Education and capacity-building efforts included a comprehensive needs assessment and the delivery of four targeted webinars, engaging over 140 providers. TMCHN also launched a Neonatal and Pediatric Education Community of Practice to support knowledge sharing across hospitals.
The network enhanced its digital presence with a new website and communication strategy and strengthened system integration through updated transfer pathways, escalation frameworks, and over 10 surge tools. TMCHN also established a working group to support the implementation of the Eating Disorder Quality Standard and co-hosted adult subspecialist panels to improve care transitions.
Finally, TMCHN established a regional scorecard and partnered with BORN to monitor outcomes and drive data-informed improvements.
As we look ahead, we are committed to building upon the strong foundation established over the past year. Our focus will remain on strengthening the relationships that have made this work possible, while fostering even greater collaboration across our network. We will continue to monitor outcomes and evaluate the impact of our initiatives to ensure we are meeting the needs of children, youth, and families across our region.
With a shared vision and ongoing commitment, we are confident that we can further strengthen our network and drive meaningful improvements in care for years to come.
